‘Mr Specsavers’ enjoys champagne moment

IT IS said an apple a day keeps the doctor away – but for one Lincoln shop worker, plenty of coffee in the morning has been the secret to a decade without a single day off sick.
Kevin Heath, 45, this month celebrated ten years working at Specsavers opticians on Lincoln’s High Street – an achievement which has led him to be dubbed “Mr Specsavers” by colleagues and customers. Working as an ophthalmic dispensing assistant, Mr Heath is now a firm fixture in the store and has battled everything from a common cold to a broken nose to make it into work every day.
“The last ten years have flown by – I can’t really believe it. I guess the fact everyday is so different and meeting different customers is what makes the job so great. I just really enjoy working with people,” he said.
Born and still living in Lincoln, he works on the shop floor, helping customers to pick out frames, a job which he began back in 2000.
Paul Hurdley, store director of Lincoln High Street Specsavers, said: “It’s fantastic Kevin has reached ten years without a single day off work. Not many people can say they have reached the same milestone.
“Kevin is an integral member of the team here and is not only popular with staff but also our customers who have fondly nicknamed him Mr Specsavers.”
Mr Heath said he was a little bit embarrassed by the name, but believes he has made quite an impact during his time at the store.
“When I first started I was the only male to work on the shop floor and so now I would like to think I have started a trend as over my time here this number has now increased to four,” he added.
“I was taken on to meet and greet customers and helping them to select their frames.
“A lot can depend on people’s hair, eye colour and face shape
